Called by Bob Ewell on November 21st, Bob Ewell claimed that “ Some n***** had raped his girl”

“Got in the car and went out there as fast as I could.”

She was “Lying on the floor to the right when you walk in.”

She was “Mighty banged up”

No one calls the doctor.

Bob Ewell:

“The night of November twenty one, I was comin’ from the woods with a load of kindlin’.”

“I heard mayella screamin like a stuck hog inside the house.”

“Just fore sundown”

“I seen that black n***** yonder ruttin’ on my mayella.”

“Why, I run for tate as quick as I could”

Mayella Ewell:

“I said come here, n*****, and bust up this chiffarobe for me, I gotta nickel for you.

I went in the house to get him a nickel and I turned around an ‘fore I knew it he was on me. Just run up behind me, he did. He got me around the neck , cussin’ me an’ sayin’ dirt---I fought’n’hollered, but he had me around the neck. He hit me agin an’ agin---”

Tom Robinson:

“I was going home as usual that evenin’,”

“I passed the Ewell place Miss Mayella were in the porch,”

“I went inside the fence an’ looked around for some kindlin’ to work, but I didn’t see none, and she says, ‘Naw, I got somethin’ for you to do in the house.”

“I say where the chillun?” he continued, “an’ she says--- she was laughin’, sort of--- she says they all gone to town to get ice creams.”Mr. Finch, I got offa that chair an’ turned around an’ she sorta jumped on me.”

“She reached up an’ kissed me ‘side of th’ face.

“She says Kiss me back, n*****.’ I say Miss Mayella lemme outa here an’ tried to run but she got her back on the door an’ I’da had to push her. I didn’t want to harm her, Mr. Finch, an’ I say lemme pass, but just when I say it Mr. Ewell yonder hollered through th’ window.”
