Psychology report on Robert E Lee Ewell
We are psychologists evaluating Robert E. Lee Ewell. He has an interesting and complex report, so we will dive right in.
Mr Ewell is a Father with an unknown age. He’s left handed, and he’s prone to anger outbursts, usually taking it out on the people around him. This shows that he is likely to have abused his daughter in one of his anger outbursts, and then forced her to make up the rape allegations. This is likely, because with a life like that of the Ewells, people are more prone to domestic violence with this kind of stressor on their life. In the environment that he was raised in, he would be given a hyper-masculine model to live by, and in this model domestic abuse by the male figure would be the norm. The environment he was raised in was also an environment of racial intolerance, as he has been known to call people “N***** lover”, which demonstrates that he has been raised with the idea that people of different ethnicities are lower than him. He also is known to talk through threats, as after Atticus tried to defend Tom robinson, Mr Ewell came up to him and threatened to kill him. This is indicative of a negative childhood environment, again showing child abuse to be a norm. To him, this justifies him beating of Mayella. He has a tall, strong build, therefore cementing his supposed superiority over everyone else in his mind. This is usual in men raised in the environment that he was. He very well might be a sociopath which may or may not be true. Faking an allegation, especially for a crime that is a capitol offense in Alabama, is something that a rational person would not be able to cope with. In this case, however, Mr Ewell had no problem with framing Tom Robinson. The inference that he is a sociopath is strengthened by the fact that he has no discerning empathy. A lack of empathy is one of the key identifications of a sociopath, so this leads us to our profesional diagnosis: He is a sociopath.
