Robert E. Lee Ewell is a fifty eight year old man. He has eight children, his oldest being Mayella. His wife died in 1925 at the age of forty one, giving birth to her fifth child. Robert is capable of writing, as he proved by writing out his name, and is left handed, but states “I can use one hand as good as the other”. He speaks with profanity and is seemingly quite racist and rude. He is also very negative and an alcoholic. In Mayella’s testimony after she said “He does tollable, ’cept when-”, she was asked “Except when he’s drinking?” She responded only with a nod. Robert is also a physical abuser in his house. In Mayella’s testimony when asked Robert also agreed with Sheriff Tate after he gave his testimony, even though it is wrong. He is religious, and believes in the Christian religion. He is motivated by white supremacy and tries his hardest to keep it alive as best as he can.
